We are looking for an experienced musician to lead our sales team at our Glen Waverley showroom on a full-time basis.

The ideal candidate will be a highly proficient violinist or cellist, have previous retail sales and management experience, engage easily with people and be eager to share their passion for music with others. They will be able to handle multiple tasks and competing deadlines, be able to clearly explain and delegate tasks, and possess a strong work ethic.

This is the perfect role for a degree qualified musician with a background in retail, who is looking to join an established musical business and help support the musical journey of musicians across Australia.

Job responsibilities: 

The role manages the sales and customer service function of the Bows for Strings showroom.

Leading the sales team, the Showroom Manager is responsible for the day to day management of showroom staff, ensuring all daily and weekly tasks are carried out to a high standard and that every Bows for Strings customer is provided with a high level of service through a strong focus on education and advice.

The Showroom Manager will intimately know the Bows for Strings range and be able to educate customers at every step of their musical journey, from daring beginners, right through to experienced players looking for their forever instrument.

Tasks of the role include (but are not limited to):

  • Provide expert customer service in the demonstration and sale of instruments and accessories for all levels of players - from the daring beginner to the accomplished professional.
  • Set the tone of the Bows for Strings showroom, creating an inviting and engaging showroom space for all customers.
  • Respond to all customer service email and telephone enquiries in a timely manner.
  • Coordinate and manage the sales team to assist in the successful implementation of all showroom team tasks.
  • Create positive relationships with referring teachers and keep an up to date list of teacher preferences that can be used by all sales staff.
  • Ensure the Bows for Strings showroom is always presentable and kept in line with business owner's expectations.
  • Stay up to date with the latest product information and impart this onto the rest of the sales team.
  • Regularly lead stocktakes, and ensure minimum stock quantities are kept on hand at all times.
  • Liaise with local suppliers and order showroom stock as required.
  • Receive, price and sort all new stock that enters the showroom.
  • Timely packing and fulfillment of online orders and showroom pre-orders.
  • Provide sales follow up to customers by monitoring outstanding orders and contacting customers where necessary.
  • Ensure shop policy is upheld by all showroom team members.
  • Regularly assist in the production of marketing content (e.g. educational videos).
  • Assist in the hiring and training of new sales staff.
  • Assist the Workshop Manager in the weekly scheduling of orders into the workshop, and create warehouse transfers of stock when required.
  • Liaise with school customers and assist in the quoting of repair work and sales.
  • Assisting with basic workshop tasks including string changes and instrument cleaning.

Candidate requirements:

The ideal candidate will be excited to share their passion for music with others, and will posses the following characteristics/qualifications:

  • Passionate about music and helping others on their musical journey
  • Have previous retail management experience
  • Have strong experience providing customer service in person or over the phone
  • Play a bowed instrument at a university level or higher
  • A university degree will be looked upon favourably (but is not essential)
  • Able to work full time (Monday to Friday)
  • Able to handle multiple tasks, prioritise what needs to be done and delegate when required
  • Proficient technology skills (Microsoft Office, etc)
