Our Warranty
Bows for Strings Warranty - Peace of mind guaranteed
We’re proud of the warranty and peace of mind we provide all customers, so even though it might be a little wordy, we recommend you read the below closely so you know how we look after you.
The Bows for Strings warranty covers all instruments, cases and bows sold by Bows for Strings either online at bowsforstrings.com or in person at our Glen Waverley showroom. Our warranty also covers repairs conducted by the Bows for Strings workshop.
Our warranty is an agreement with the original purchaser of the instrument or repair work and not a third party purchaser.
All instruments, cases and bows are warrantied to be free from defects in both material and construction. Bows for Strings will repair or replace any item that is found to be defective. If the item cannot be repaired or replaced, Bows for Strings will refund the cost of that item to the purchaser. Bows for Strings will be the sole authority of eligibility for warranty repair, replacement or refund.
Certain conditions apply to individual items or repair work, as detailed below:
INSTRUMENTS AND FITTINGS INCLUDED IN OUR PROFESSIONAL SET-UP:
Bows for Strings offers a free three month post-purchase check of all instruments. This service underpins our warranty as it allows our workshop to check the instrument is in good order and performing as best as it can.
All new instruments are warrantied to be free of defect in material and construction for one year. This includes pegs, chinrests, endpins, tailpieces, open seams and loose fingerboards.
Bridges are also covered by our warranty for a period of one year, providing they have been checked by our workshop three months after purchase. The strings can pull the bridge forward so this is monitored at the three month check.
SECOND-HAND INSTRUMENTS:
All second-hand instruments sold at Bows for Strings are sold in good working order and have been set-up and checked by our workshop. As such, Bows for Strings warranties second-hand instruments for six months. Second-hand cases are not covered under warranty.
BOWS:
All bows are warrantied to be free of defect in material and construction for six months from date of purchase, unless otherwise noted. Original hair installation is covered for a period of six months.
Bow hair bugs (carpet beetle) chew on bow hairs. Damage to bow hair from these bugs is not covered under our warranty. To help prevent this, use your bow regularly and never leave your case open on the floor, or leave your bow on the floor.
Bows left ‘wound up’ or ‘tightened’ when not in use are also at risk of warping and breaking. To avoid this, always loosen your bow after playing your instrument so the hair is relaxed.
Bow tips are not warrantied.
Sometimes the hair of your bow can pull out the wedge at either end of your bow. This is warrantied for one year for repair or replacement, but this is not covered if the bow is overtightened.
CASES:
Cases are designed to protect your instrument, and as such, often take much more harsh treatment than your instrument. Damage caused by either normal wear and tear, or by misuse or neglect is not covered under this warranty. The Bows for Strings warranty covers cases and case parts deemed defective in material or construction for six months.
Damage to instruments, bows or other personal property being stored or transported in cases are not covered by this warranty.
REPAIRS:
Bows for Strings warranties all repairs conducted in our workshop for six months unless otherwise agreed upon with the customer.
Bow re-hairs are limited to the installation of hair; our warranty does not cover loss of hair due to insects or to hair that stretches or shrinks due to climate.
All warranty repair work must be performed in our workshop.
ITEMS NOT COVERED:
Strings or rosin are not covered.
Damage caused by neglect or misuse of your item is not covered. Please note that exposure to excessive heat, cold, dryness, or moisture is considered neglect and is not covered under warranty.
Standard wear and tear from normal use is also not considered a defect, and not covered under this warranty.
Our warranty is void if any repair or attempt to repair an item is made by the customer or by another workshop other than Bows for Strings.
Instrument adjustments to sound, feel or player preference are not covered by this warranty.
