The Jay Haide L’Ancienne Stradivarius Viola has a narrower, streamlined body than the Maggini model and has a brighter sound.
These violas are a testament to the quality produced by world-class European luthiers Jay Ifshin and Haide Lin.

All Jay Haide violas are hand-made of quality seasoned maple and spruce and have a tone quality and workmanship normally found in instruments costing much more.
The L’ancienne violas are made by more senior violin makers with finer quality aged wood for musicians requiring the best tone quality.The Jay Haide L’ancienne violas are brought to you after years of development. The varnish is a new formulation, carefully applied and beautifully antiqued giving each instrument the patina of age, so desired by both musicians and connoisseurs. They are as beautiful tonally as they are visually.
All Jay Haide instruments enter the Bows for Strings workshop as a blank canvas, and are treated to the full Bows for Strings advanced professional set-up to achieve the best sound and playability for the instrument.
This process includes adjustment to the fingerboard and nut. fitting Bows for Strings selected pegs, a Despiau bridge of highest quality (3 tree) hand cut in our workshop, and a soundpost made of well-seasoned spruce by Pahler of Germany.
Viola set-up is completed with a Wittner tailpiece, Wittner side-mount chin rest, and your choice of Pirastro Obligato or Evah Pirazzi strings.

Standard parcels ship via Australia Post, and we offer free shipping for orders over $75 (standard cost is $10). Orders are fulfilled within 3 business days. Standard delivery times are 3-5 days. All instruments are professionally set-up by our workshop, and so fulfilment times for instrument orders are longer (please allow 2-3 weeks currently due to back to school demand). Want to get your order as fast as possible? We also offer an express post option which you can select at checkout. Items are sent via Australia Post Express and typically arrive in 1-2 days after your order has been fulfilled.
Larger items such as cellos and large cases require extra care and incur a separate handling and delivery fee of $75. Double Basses sized 1/4 also incur a separate fee of $125, and 1/2 and 3/4 Double Basses a fee of $225. These items are not applicable for free shipping. When ordering larger items to remote locations, or when ordering multiple larger items, there may be an additional delivery cost involved.
