Video: Daniele Tonarelli 'ex Piatti' Cello Demonstration — 2026
We are thrilled to present our second Daniele Tonarelli cello, and it is every bit as special as the first.
Daniele Tonarelli is an Italian master luthier who has been crafting instruments of the highest quality in his Cremona workshop since 1997. His violins have been a mainstay of our showroom for years, and when his first cello arrived in 2023 it exceeded all our expectations. We have been looking forward to another ever since.

This cello is modelled on Antonio Stradivari's 'ex Piatti' cello of 1720 — the instrument made famous by the great 19th-century cellist Alfredo Piatti. Crafted in Tonarelli's workshop in 2026, it pairs a finely grained spruce top with beautifully flamed maple through the back, neck and scroll, all finished in a warm golden-amber varnish. It has just been professionally set up in our workshop and is ready to play.
In the video below, d'Artagnan shows off the full range of the instrument — from the depth of the C string to the clarity of the A string.
Have a listen and let us know what you think.
